Policy development to improve nursing home quality is an urgent task especially when we consider a rapid increase of elderly population in next three decades. To prepare ourselves for increasing demands for quality care, this study explores contributing factors to nursing home quality. Following the Donabedian Model, nursing home quality is assessed in terms of nursing home structure, process, and outcomes. Nursing home surveys with questions in these three domains were distributed to 515 Indiana nursing homes and nursing home administrators are asked to participate. The results of the survey will help us to draw policy recommendations to improve nursing home quality. The challenges that nursing homes have faced on daily basis will be also discussed.
