Design of Wireless Data Acquisition Sensor System for Health Care Applications

Long range and low cost wireless data acquisition (WDAQ) sensor system for health care applications has been designed, simulated, and implemented. Single receiver and transmitter pair is used with sequential logic to reduce the cost significantly. Physical system that has been implemented is involved of sensor measurement, local communication station and base station. Patient's critical parameters such as body temperature are measured using wearable sensors and then transmitted to local communication station via high frequency (HF) RFID system. The measured signal is processed at the microcontroller and sent to long range RF transceiver pair whose receiver is located at the base station within 20 mile radius of the local communication station. The received signal is conditioned using SC 2345 signal conditioning unit, and sent to data acquisition system, which has DAQPad-6020-E hardware equipped with LabView software. The signal at this stage is analyzed and all the information related to patient is displayed to the user. This system gives real-time remote monitoring ability for patients and elders and as a result plays vital role for home care facilities and health care institutes.
