This project examined the teaching strategies of teachers and paraprofessionals who work with students who are nonverbal in a moderate cognitive classroom in an urban high school located in the second largest city in an upper Midwest state of the United States. This study included nine educators that work with fifty-seven students with mild and moderate impairments. Survey participants completed a survey with twelve open-ended questions by school mail. The results of the findings produced various teaching strategies that were placed in a handbook that will be used as a teaching tool for new or inexperienced special education teachers or paraprofessionals who work with students who are nonverbal with moderate cognitive impairments.
