On a Discrete Zolotarev Problem with Applications to the Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) Method

In this talk I will consider a discrete version of the Third Zolotarev Problem. This problem arises in the investigation of optimal parameters of the ADI method for solving partial differential equations. The asymptotics of these parameters are governed by a constrained energy problem for signed measures.
