Abstract

Many publications exist for C80 endohedral metallofullerenes (e.g., M3N@C80), but there is little research on larger metallofullerene cages, such as M3N@C88-C112 and M3C98-C102. Our goal is to isolate these larger endohedrals from complex extracts via chemical selectivity. We seek to replace our earlier use of reactive amines that were immobilized on silica gel. Finding a support-free amine with water-soluble groups would remove the need to synthesize aminosilica and save the expenses of chemicals and time. In this presentation, we discuss the feasibility of using amino alcohols as selective reagents. With this approach, we can either chemically isolate a larger cage endohedral (M3N@C88) or delay the use of HPLC by injecting only highly enriched samples obtained from our chemical purification.
