The purpose of this special project was to researches how to use Reading Recovery types of strategies with students with specific learning disabilities in reading. This special project reviews the history and application of Reading Recovery in the United States and looks at its strategies. It researches the current uses of Reading Recovery and how this may be applied to students with specific learning disabilities. Based on a needs assessment survey with six participants, four questions and its findings, a handbook was created. This handbook combines Reading Recovery types of strategies with students with specific learning disabilities in reading. It could be used by teachers of students with special needs in a resource classroom to help improve their students' abilities in reading.
